What is the difference between hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing?

There is a huge demand for chain use in industrial production. In order to prevent corrosion and rust, there is a galvanizing processing method, which is mainly divided into electrogalvanized chain and hot-dip galvanized chain. What is the difference between the two? Let's take a look.

Different manufacturing processes

Electrogalvanizing: The parts to be plated are first cleaned, pickled, activated, etc., and then immersed in an electrolyte containing zinc salts. Under the action of the DC electric field, zinc ions are precipitated from the electrolyte and deposited on the surface of the parts to be plated to form a zinc coating.
Hot-dip galvanizing: The parts to be plated are placed in a galvanizing tank containing molten zinc, so that the surface of the parts to be plated is fully in contact with the zinc liquid. Under the action of the zinc liquid, a zinc coating is formed on the surface of the parts to be plated.

Different appearance
Electroplated zinc: smooth and uniform surface, with a certain brightness, good surface quality;
Hot-dip galvanized: rough surface, sometimes uneven with zinc flowers, oxides, etc., generally poor surface quality.

Different corrosion resistance

Electrogalvanizing: The surface is smooth and uniform, with a certain brightness and good surface quality;
Hot-dip galvanizing: The surface is rough, and sometimes uneven conditions such as zinc flowers and oxides will appear, and the surface quality is generally poor.

Different application scenarios

Electrogalvanizing: Electrogalvanized chains are mainly used in indoor dry environments, such as furniture, hardware accessories, etc.
Hot-dip galvanizing: Hot-dip galvanized chains are mainly used in outdoor humid environments, such as building structures, pipelines, automotive parts, etc.

So if we need a chain with beautiful appearance, we can use electro-galvanized chain. If we need strong corrosion resistance, we need hot-dip galvanized chain.
